Emiko Queen Reading Order (Red Arrow)

  • by

In March 2013, Team Arrow expanded with the introduction of a new member, Emiko Queen. Created by writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino, Emiko made her first appearance in Green Arrow, Vol. 5 #18 as Oliver Queen’s half-sister.

For those of you who were watching the TV Show Arrow at the time, Emiko was inspired by Thea Queen, an original character from the Arrowverse, before being introduced in the series in season seven. She was played by Sea Shimooka.

In the DC Comic Book pages, Emiko is the daughter of Shado and Robert Queen. She was kidnapped and raised as an assassin by Simon Lacroix/Komodo, ignoring her real origins for a long time. She freed herself of her oppressor and followed Oliver Queen back to Seattle for a fresh start.

A skilled archer, she first chooses to also call herself Green Arrow, but will later take another codename, becoming the second Red Arrow – the mantle was used pre-Flashpoint by Roy Harper.

Want to read stories with Emiko Queen? We listed her many appearances in the DC Universe, from her debut during the New 52 era to her time with the Teen Titans (with Damian Wayne) and her team-up with Stargirl! But first…

Introducing Team Arrow

As Emiko Queen is a recent character, most members of Team Arrow have naturally way more baggage/stories behind them. If you’re interested in exploring more past stories about some of them, we have a few guides at your disposition:

Emiko Queen in New 52

Meet Emiko, the adoptive daughter of Komodo, convinced her parents are dead. She was first introduced as Emiko Lacroix before learning the truth about Robert Queen and Shado. Following those revelations, her loyalties changed, and free from Komodo’s influence, Emiko became the Green Arrow’s sidekick. If you ask Emiko, she will tell you she is Oliver’s new apprentice.

Futures End Reading Order IconFuture’s End! In an alternate future, Emiko Queen protects Seattle and has taken up the Green Arrow mantle. See our Complete Future’s End reading order for more information about the whole event. This is an optional reading for Emiko, though you can check out the special Green Arrow.

Emiko Queen is Red Arrow in DC Rebirth Comics

Benjamin Percy kept writing the Green Arrow series in the Rebirth era, a run that is listed in our selection of the best of DC Rebirth. By extension, the writer was also developing and exploring Emiko. Changes were on the way for the character, as she took on the mantle of Red Arrow and joined the Teen Titans.

Following the events of Dark Nights: Metal and Justice League: No Justice, the Teen Titans underwent some changes, and a new team, still under Damian Wayne‘s leadership, was formed. Emiko accepts to become Robin’s right hand. It was not the greatest idea, as this Teen Titans run written mostly by Adam Glass is not recommended.

Batman who laughs Icon Reading OrderA follow-up to Dark Nights: Metal, Death Metal sees humanity struggling to survive in a hellish landscape twisted beyond recognition, while Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman have all been separated and must fight to survive. What does it mean for Emiko? The character doesn’t appear in the main event, but in the story ‘Falling Through the Cracks‘ published in the one-shot Dark Nights: Death Metal The Last 52: War of the Multiverse #1.

Justice LeagueAnd before a new DC era, Emiko made an appearance, with the Teen Titans, in the Justice League: Endless Winter event (see reading order):

DC Future State LogoFuture State! A direct sequel to Dark Nights: Death Metal, Future State (listing) is a possible future for the DC Universe to explore the destinies of DC’s heroes. Emiko appears in Future State: Teen Titans (collected in Future State: Suicide Squad).

Emiko Queen in the Infinite Frontier/Dawn of DC era

Following an invitation by the original Titans, Emiko Queen joins the Teen Titans Academy for a time.

Batman: Fortress! We make a stop to signal an out-of-continuity Batman storyline where an unknown alien ship enters Earth’s atmosphere, disrupting global power and communications and plunging the planet into chaos. With Supes’s absent, it comes to Batman to counter the alien threat… And Emiko appears in the second part of the story.

As a friend of Crush (from her Teen Titans days), Emiko appears in the first issue of Crush & Lobo. But the red archer has also recently met Stargirl, and they both team up after discovering a tragic teenage hero from the past has gone missing in The Lost Children.

What’s coming next? Emiko Queen as Red Arrow should appear with the rest of the Arrow Family in Titans: Beast Tour – Star City #1
