Storm Reading Order, Your Ororo Munroe Comic Book Guide!

One of the first black comic book characters, Storm is also one of the most important female superheroes in the Marvel Universe. She is a member of the X-Men, a descendant of African witch-priestesses with the ability to control the weather and atmosphere, who uses her powers to fight for peace and equal rights.

Created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum, she made her first appearance in the classic Giant-Size X-Men #1, the famous issue introducing several new X-Men such as Wolverine (who already made his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #181), Colossus, Thunderbird, and Nightcrawler.

Born Ororo Munroe, Storm is a powerful and strong superheroine with a love of nature. Noticeable for her striking blue eyes and silver-white hair, she is warm, generous, and protective of her friends and family but cold, frightening, and dangerous to her enemies. Recognized as an Omega Level Mutant, she has served multiple times as the leader of the X-Men. Storm has also been worshipped as a Goddess, was Queen of Wakanda, and briefly a member of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four.

During this period, you can choose to read the miniseries Ororo: Before The Storm. While published in 2005, the events depicted are set in Storm’s childhood when she was a pickpocket in Cairo. There is no particular placement, as it is always better to be familiar with the character before exploring the past, but you’re free to choose whenever you prefer to dive into it!

90’s Storm

At the beginning of the nineties, the X-Men massive cast is split between two titles. While Scott Summers is the leader of the Blue Team, the Gold Team is led by Storm in Uncanny X-Men (written by Scott Lobdell), consisting of Jean Grey, Colossus, Iceman, and Archangel. XSE Officer from the future Bishop also made his debut and was added to the roster. It has to be said that this is not the most vital part of Storm’s story.

Storm, Queen of Wakanda in the 2000s

Chris Claremont made his return on the X-Men at the beginning of the 2000s with X-Treme X-Men featuring a globetrotting team led by Storm. While not stand-out stories, this is a good read if you like how Claremont writes her.

The most impactful event in Storm’s life in this era didn’t happen in any X-Men titles but in Black Panther! During Reginald Hudlin’s run, Storm rekindles her relationship with T’Challa, marries him, and becomes the Queen of Wakanda. Together, there’s also part of the Fantastic Four for a short time. Storm and Black PAnther’s love story is put at the center of the miniseries Storm by writer Eric Jerome Dickey.

Back to the X-Men at the start of the 2010s

Storm is officially back with the X-Men at a time when the group is going through an ideological and physical split! She found herself determined to fight for survival and part of the X-Men’s “Extinction Team” with Cyclops, Emma Frost, Magneto, Namor, Colossus, Danger, Magik and Hope. She also joins for a short time the Avengers just before the team finds himself fighting against the X-Men! Note that not all volumes of X-Men volume 3 are listed, only what we think are the most important ones. But you’ll find the character in the other trades!

Storm in Marvel Now!

Ororo Munroe must heal some wounds while pursuing her ongoing mission to fight for a better world. Following the battle against the Avengers and the end of her marriage, she is back with the X-Men, working at the Jean Grey School, putting together an all-women X-Men squad, and has a short tenure with X-Force. She reconnects with foes and friends and even headlines her own solo title!

The Hour of the Storm. In Black Panther #172.

All-New, All-Different Storm!

The Marvel Universe has been one again relaunched. Wolverine is dead. The Mutants face extinction once more! Those are some tumultuous times for Storm, which are not offered many opportunities to shine. She starts this era as a leader of Extraordinary X-Men. Following the inevitable war with the Inhumans, Ororo Munroe left her leadership position in favor of being just a member of the X-Men: Gold team and is reunited with Jean Grey in X-Men: Red.

During Ta-Nehisi Coates’s run on Black Panther, Storm is back in Wakanda to help the country during one the toughest periods.
