Miles Morales Reading Order (Spider-Man, Champions, Ultimate)

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Reading Order

If Peter Parker is the main Spider-Man, there are a lot of alternative versions of Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe. Miles Morales is one of the superheroes who wear the Spidey costume.

When the Peter Parker of the Ultimate Universe falls, the world needs a Spider-Man — and here comes Miles Morales! But what’s the secret behind his powers — and can he master them before the Scorpion strikes? Family life gets complicated as Miles learns the truth about his uncle Aaron, and Captain America comes calling when war breaks out! Miles shares a multiversal meeting of the Spider-Men with the Marvel Universe’s Peter Parker, but what tragedy could leave the young hero swearing never to wear the webs again? There’ll be familiar faces, heroic allies, deadly menaces, a startling return and a sprinkling of romance in the complete Ultimate Universe adventures of Miles Morales!

Created by Brian Michael Bendis et Sara Pichelli, Miles Morales made his first appearance in Ultimate Fallout #4 in August 2011 — in the Ultimate brand.

A young kid from Brooklyn on Earth-1610, he follows in the footsteps of Peter Parker in the Ultimate universe before being made a character in the main Marvel Universe. He was also the star of the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but we are here today to retrace his comic book history, so let’s go!

Spider-Man Miles Morales Comics Reading Order

Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man (2011–2013)

Miles Morales is the second Spider-Man to appear in Ultimate Marvel. He takes up the mantle after a tragedy, in the arc Death of Spider-Man.

Courtesy of the multiversal machinations of Mysterio, the Marvel Universe’s friendly neighborhood Peter Parker meets Ultimate Comics’ new kid on the block, Miles Morales in the limited series Spider-Men!

This is where Age of Ultron (Reading Order) takes place, a crossover storyline by Brian Michael Bendis, with artists Bryan Hitch and Brandon Peterson, for which Cataclysm is considered a sequel. You don’t have to read it, just know it ends with Miles out as Spider-Man when a flash of light echoed to reveal the arrival of Galactus of Earth-616 (as he displaced to the Ultimate Marvel universe).

  • Cataclysm: The Ultimates’ Last Stand
Collects Hunger #1-4; Cataclysm #0.1; Cataclysm: The Ultimates’ Last Stand #1-5; Cataclysm: Ultimate Spider-Man #1-3; Cataclysm: Ultimate X-Men #1-3; Cataclysm: Ultimates #1-3; & Survive #1.

Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man (2014–2015)

In the wake of the Cataclysm comes a new relaunch for the Ultimate line, named Ultimate Marvel NOW! and Miles Morales begins his second solo series, Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man.

But before, we have the 2014 Marvel event Spider-Verse written by Dan Slott in which all the Spider-Men are attacked by Morlun and his family, the Inheritors. To know more about it, you can consult our Reading Order.

The All-New X-Men (aka the five original X-Men, brought from the past to the present written by Bendis) meet Miles Morales, the Ultimate Spider-Man in this crossover story.

This is the end of the line for the Ultimate Marvel imprint with the 2015 cross-over event Secret Wars. This is the destruction of the Marvel Universe as we knew it and various other alternate universes like the Ultimate one or the 2099 line and more. To know more, go to our Secret Wars reading Order.

The Ultimate Universe ended after this event, with select characters from the Ultimate Universe moving to the mainstream universe.

The Ultimate Period is also collected in the Ultimate Collection

Spider-Man vol. 2. (2016–2017)

Miles Morales lives now in Earth-616. With Peter Parker’s blessing, he patrols New York City as Spider-Man. He also joins during a time the latest team of Avengers in All-New, All-Different Avengers, and later The Champions.

It didn’t take long for Miles to be part of an event in the main universe with Avengers: Standoff, a 2016 event in which the Avengers investigated the mysterious gated community of Pleasant Hill, trying to determine the nature of its involvement with S.H.I.E.L.D.

From one event to another. After Standoff, another crisis for the superheroes with Civil War II, creating a conflict between Iron Man and Captain Marvel, with Miles on Tony’s side. For more information, go read our Civil War II Reading Order!

No rest for the brave! It’s all hands on deck across the Marvel Universe to deal with the giant-size fallout in the event Monsters Unleashed!

Another big Marvel crossover with Secret Empire dealing with the revelation that Captain America is a sleeper agent and has covertly set the stage to establish the terrorist organization Hydra as the main world power. For the full event, go see the Secret Empire Reading Order.

The Avengers and the Champions face a new threat–The High Evolutionary, a twisted scientist determined to create a better world at all costs, sets the Earth on a collision course with destruction! But in this event, not everyone agrees on how best to combat the enemy.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2018–present)

It’s a Fresh Start for Miles Morales and the other heroes (and villains) of Marvel, with this 2018 relaunch. Miles has a new solo series, is still a member of Champions, and lives some spider-verse adventures, in the main universe and beyond!

This is the beginning of Donny Cates’s run on Venom, where big things are going to happen for the symbiote with events where Miles will be part of and it begins with the arc ‘Web of Venom’.

Spider-Geddon is a Spider-Man event taking place in the Marvel comics universe and a sequel to the massively popular event Spider-verse. This time, Miles is the lead and we have a whole reading order dedicated to the event.

In the Thor Event War of The Realms (Reading Order), our heroes must fight against a full-on invasion and defeat Malekith. Miles is part of what is called the Babysitters Club in The War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery story. You don’t have to read the main event for Miles as he is not part of it (though Jason Aaron’s run on Thor is well worth your time!)

Carnage, the psychotic offspring of Venom, has returned in the event Absolute Carnage, in which you can find Miles! See the full reading order.

Spider-Verse Reading Order IconLike the Spider-Verse event gives us the really fun Web Warriors series, Spider-Geddon gives us Spider-Verse: Spider-Zero with Mile Morales finding himself at the center of a new multiversal adventure.

Miles Morales becomes Outlawed in this event that can be introduced as a young superhero Civil War when the United States passes a new law in the wake of a devastating tragedy. Go see our Reading order to know more about this story involving Miles, Ms. Marvel, and the Champions.

The Order of the Web is formed in The Amazing Spider-Man title, where Peter Parker must face Kindred—the mystery villain who has been plaguing Peter Parker’s life in the ‘Last Remains’ storyline from Nick Spencer’s run. And you guessed it, Miles is gonna help Petey, with other spider-heroes.

A sequel to Absolute Carnage, King in Black (reading order) is a Venom event, with Knull ready to conquer Earth with an army of hundreds of thousands of symbiote dragons at his command. This is totally optional for Miles Morales readers, as our young hero has a very limited presence in it. Just know that Miles Morales: Spider-Man #23 is a tie-in to this event.

Miles Morales in the Spider-Verse! Our Spider is at the center of the last arc in Spider-Verse Unlimited Infinity Comic, before the third and final chapter in the Dan Slott’s Spider-Verse trilogy where, once again, all Spiders are in danger!

Following the conclusion of Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Marvel launched a few months later Miles’ fifth solo series, by writer Cody Ziglar and artist Federico Vicentini.  The young Spider-Man finds himself quickly embroiled in a crossover with Carnage!
